Ex-Art Brut and Rhesus types Macaca Mulatta are giving their improbably named new guitarist Dan Lobster his debut tonight, and the effect is impressive. The songs are beefed up by the added guitar, producing a harder driving sound, without losing the pop-tinged melodies that gave them much of their appeal in the first place.

It also gives frontman, the equally improbably named Chris Chinchilla, freedom to leap about the stage and, in the throes of their final song, take to the crowd for a bit of audience participation. (More Macaca Mulatta photos here.)
