Pop-Art First Anniversary: The New Year's Boycott
And What Will Be Left Of Them?, iDou, Macaca Mulatta + Mr Solo
30.12.06 @ The Lark in the Park Islington

Maps are not the only people celebrating their first birthday this week, four days older is innovative London gig night Pop-Art.

Having enjoyed a few rounds of indie win, lose or draw (congratulations to the victorious Richie Abdou's team), and scanned the tracklisting of the free cd that we were treated to on entry, we make our way over to the Lark's peculiar wood cladded performance area, looking something akin to a cross between a stage and a ski chalet, for the eccentric pop stylings of David Devant frontman Mr Solo.

Replete in cape, sparkly jump suit, caked on make up and gravity defying quiff, Solo takes us on a whistlestop tour of his fevered imagination, delivered with all of the theatrical good humour that anyone familiar with Devant will have come to expect. (More Mr Solo photos here.)
