Blah Blah Blah (mini-album)

‘Caravan Christmas’ serves as a light-hearted response to how capitalism has destroyed the so called meaning of Christmas and opens this mini album on a high. It’s funny and cleverly apt, qualities that span this collection of seven songs.

Jay’s voice growls like a small lion across the songs, gruff but harmless and adorable from the ska-ry (and ironic) ‘Death to the Indie Disco’ to the anti-love song verses of ‘Cheated’ and ‘Regretting the Compromise’. Though his cockney intrinsic worth may lose tune every now and then, this is actually an endearing quality adding to Blah Blah Blah’s lack of pretension and abundance of genuineness. The humorous librettos of ‘Degenerates Multiply’ and ‘One’s Early Teens’ especially, are

fully equipped to capture the imagination of a generation.

To sum up this oeuvre, it is an interesting combination of music; taking morsels of punk and electro, dabbing a 30’s sounding double bass and banjo style of guitar playing here and there, and comes out with something of an original and likeable sound. One of the brilliant aspects of this mini album is that it sounds like the lads are enjoying it and not taking things too seriously, inspiring the listener to get those heels tapping at the indie ground and singing along to the catchy choruses of every track.
