Merry Christmas from Maps & Friends
Christmas Classics from Theoretical Girl, Chris T-T,
The Black Tulips, Napoleon IIIrd, Meg, Eddie Argos & Keith TOTP

All of the best things in life come to an end at some point, and today, sadly, is the last window of our festive Maps Advent Calendar. But wipe away those tears, for we have something of a Christmas cracker for you, with Christmas classics old and new from a slew of our favourite acts.

First to get us into the festive swing of things is Theoretical Girl with her luscious cover of 'Silent Night'. This year has seen her tour with Maximo Park, release a couple of our favourite singles of the year, and recruit a live backing band, The Equations.

CHRISTMAS COMPO!!!
For your chance to win a Theoretic Girl t-shirt and single promo, just send your answer to this question to paul@mapsmagazine.co.uk

What is the title of Theoretical Girl's forthcoming single?

Continuing the theme of school nativity play classics is Chris T-T, with his version of 'Little Donkey' (I still just about remember playing a xylophone solo in the middle of it when I was about 10). Chris released an EP 'This Gun Is Not A Gun', through X-tra Mile Recordings, and if this track has whetted your appetite, there are more festive tracks to be found on Chris' Myspace page.

Moving out of the school hall, The Black Tulips have recorded a cover of one of my favourite Christmas classics 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas'. This acoustic version manages somehow to marry the sumptuous warmth of the original and the slightly unsettling sense of otherness that make the Tulips' regular recordings so special.

Ploughing his own festive furrow is Brainlove Records eccentric pop pioneer Napoleon IIIrd, with his own wintry song 'Snowball Fight at the OK Diner'. Napoleon will be performing, along with fellow Calendar faves Thomas Truax, The Favours and Jay from Blah Blah Blah, at Maps' 2nd Birthday Party on Saturday 5th January at The Luminaire. Tickets are £6.

We were pointed in the direction of Meg by earlier calendar stars And What Will Be Left Of Them?, and a jolly good thing too for their track 'Another Merry Christmas' will jingle your bells better than many of the more prestigous Xmas releases this year.

And so now we've reached it at last, the final download of this year's Maps Advent Calendar. We hope that it's added a little festive cheer to your month, and offered some respite from the constant rotation of Slade and Wizard on the radio. There'll be more next year we're sure, and between now & then, keep coming back to Maps for all the latest reviews, interviews, download and features. If you like to be kept up to date, email paul@mapsmagazine.co.uk and ask to be added to the mailing list. Right, no more stalling, here it is, the final download...

I picked up a copy of The Metro on the way to work a couple of weeks ago, and much to my surprise, a familiar face stared back at me telling us all what was on his i-Pod. It's always great to see a truly talented band get the recognition they deserve, and there are

few more deserving than Art Brut, and their frontman Eddie Argos, who along with long time co-conspirator and bandmate in The Art Goblins Keith TOTP who released his own debut single 'I Hate Your Band' this year, have recorded their own version of serial Christmas chart topper Cliff Richard's 'Mistletoe and Wine'.The pair have also teamed up with Black Box Recorder to release a Christmas single, the glam-tastic 'Christmas Number One', as The Black Arts.
