| Yes , it's day one of the marvellous, magical, musical Maps Advent Calendar, and the lovely people at Fortuna Pop are already very much in the festive spirit with not one, but six Christmassy treats for you to download absolutely free, you lucky, lucky people. First up are the lovely The Loves, whom it would appear have lost that lovin' feeling with the downright downbeat, but fab none-the-less 'Cold Turkey'. |

Rather more full of Christmas joy are the dreamy Airport Girl, who confusingly enough are all boys (I bet none of them work in an airport neither). Anyway, they appear, rather endearingly, to have fallen in love with the fairy on top of their Christmas tree. Bless. Check it out in 'Glitterball' Myrhh is a substance that has played on the minds of countless children ever since being chosen to portray 'Wise Man #3' at the school nativity play. What on earth is it? Why the hell does it need so many silent 'h's? And why exactly would a new-born deity want a foil wrapper plastic beaker full of it? Sadly, Tender Trap don't appear to have the answers, but no matter, as they've instead turned 'Frankincense and Myrhh' into a blinding indie-pop tune instead. All these new odes to the winter festival are all well and good, but you just can't beat the classics, and Christmas hits don't get much more classic than 'Let It Snow'. The Butterlies of Love weave their fuzzy magic over the old favourite here. Of course, once Christmas is over & done with, we've got New Years to look forward to. We find The Chemistry Experiment in apologetic mood, after the nasty way they treated us last year, the bastards. Still, their track 'Happy New Year', goes some way to making up for the emotional damage. Not satisfied yet? Well, there's no pleasing some people. Still, you've another 23 days of musical freebies to look forward to, and as Fortuna POP!'s final gift, from The Lucksmiths, reminds us, 'It's the Though That Counts'. All these tracks and more are available on the fantabulous mini albums 'A Christmas Gift From Fortuna POP!' and 'A Christmas Gift From Fortuna POP! Volume 2', both of which you can buy with the money your Gran hid inside your Christmas card for the very reasonable sum of £6 each from www.fortunapop.com Read Fortuna POP! reviews on Maps: The Loves - Xs & Os, Sodastream - Reservations |
