Leaving Home
Chris Chinchilla (Macaca Mulatta)
UK to Australia

Where are you from originally?
Sarf London

When did you move and where did you move to?
I moved to Melbourne in February 2007.

Why did you decide to move there? Was the decision related to your music?

It wasn't really music related... I've been wanting to leave the UK for a while and get out of the rut I was in and the rut I feel the country is in. I was touring there in late 2006, liked it, met a girl and decided to stay :-)

In what ways is your new home country different from your old one?
Nicer food, generally warmer, more DIY, more laid back, newer and fresher, in the middle of nowhere geographically...

Did you have any particular difficulties when you first arrived?

Finding work and a place to live, the usual basic stuff really.

How has moving to a new country influenced your music?
Only in that I'm more relaxed and enjoy playing music more instead of constantly trying to make a point with it.

What tips would you give to a band/artist considering moving to a new country?
Do it! As soon as you can! Don't make up any excuses, just do it.
