The Black Tulips

2005 has fucked off with the home help and The Black Tulips
are six months old. It was a full body search of a year for us but
despite urgent probing we have kept a bit back for ourselves
and emerge strangely satisfied and optimistic...

Highlights:
The Birth of the Black Tulips. Alexandra woke in March with the
distinct impression that she must form a band with collaborator
Lord Fuxley, call it The Black Tulips, enlist a beautiful orange
haired bassist, a lofty rhythm guitarist and a drummer called
Ulysses. So she did. AND IT IS GOOD.

Close encounter with Coachwhips.

The warm, wet and welcome welcome bestowed by our home crowd at the Brighton gig with Schizo Fun Addict.

The advancing army of powerful girls and sensitive boys of fans.

The Black Tulips headlining Club Bohemia where the Buffalo Bar is flooded with basques and strange beauty and the toilets with stars and sequins that twinkle as you tinkle.

Not so highlights:
Alexandra cornered by Alan McGee only to find it wasn’t Mr McGee at all but an opportunist champagne plying lookalike, free with his body odour.

Pole dancing steeped in fake fur and fury at the Pleasure Unit in August.

The ongoing drummer saga: the mysterious Ulysses has been through several incarnations already in our short history, a Time Lord on fast forward. The position is currently open to a charming applicant with an appropriate disposition and a taste for tea.

Stuck to the knees in mud at Glastonbury, unable to get away from the headliners. Left soon after, leaving a trail of bowler hats.

AND for 2006: massive success and the beginning of a nasty backlash dealt with by becoming arch recluses on the Isle of Wight.
