Akira

Two Thousand and Five
The year in five points from those good folks at Akira

One. Make it arty. Sentence fragments. Loadsa references. Because just writing out stuff in a sensible way is tired. Ha.
Popular phrases to holler back:
"Britpop was a bad idea the first time round." "I have those records too." "I'm bored now." "You're shit."
Thinking: we can do better.
(in a northern accent): “Don't believe the hype...”

Two. This has been the Year of Going to Gigs. Supporting the people that deserve it. Making friends. Focusing on the good stuff.
Token list: Twentysixfeet, Popular Workshop, October All Over, Querelle, Various Productions, Kill Keneda.
Lots more.
Making it one time for all time. Saying thanks in Icelandic. I am ready for you now.

Three. Getting jobs. Paying rent. Buying and eating food. Bloody London Transport. Drawing up plans for bigger and better mousetraps. Plane crashes on desert islands for your viewing pleasure. Books: Cloud Atlas. The Time Traveller’s Wife.
Sometimes the mainstream can achieve things that alter your world and keep your mind company. You know? Sturdy off the good foot. Every time you say your name you've gotta end it with: "I work at the White House." Don't know why.
The sound of the underground: walk – don’t run.

Four. Working out ever more inventive ways to slaughter time at work. Trying to be as unhelpful as possible without actually getting fired. Internet webzines. Of which there are lots. Didn’t buy any magazines this year. The print media is decomposing before our very eyes. Very sad, but you know the score: Nothing. Ever. Happens.

Five. Scoring gigs. Soundchecks. The joys of myspace. Playing your songs to people who understand what you’re doing. And all the other fun stuff you get being in a band. Yes. Doing what we must. Feeling Good Incorporated. And why not?

Here’s to the New Year. See you on the other side.

Kisses.
